Sun, sand and fresh air… it’s a combination made in holiday heaven. Sadly, when it comes to the precious skin on our faces, it usually equals stress and irritation. If you’re anything like me, the combination of heat and humidity can wreck havoc with your delicate complexion. This summer, let’s vow to take better care of our faces. With a few nifty summer skincare hacks, here’s how to keep your complexion looking its radiant best all summer long.

Exfoliate!

The sun exposure plus the salt and chlorine is your skins worst nightmare! Give your skin a break and a chance to shine by exfoliating the build-up of dry skin cells. Remember not to over-do it, two to three times a week is plenty. SkinFood Black Sugar Mask is my go-to exfoliater lately

Wear A Hat

Purchase a wide brim hat that covers your face from all angles. There are plenty of fashionable hats that’ll keep your skin healthy in the summer heat. Hats have the additional benefit of protecting your hair from sun damage as well as your face.

SPF Everyday, No Questions Asked

This one really is non-negotiable – wear a good quality sunscreen every single day with a high SPF. Even with cloud cover, the sun’s harsh rays still have the ability to cause irreparable damage to your skin. Asked about her secret for flawless, age-defying skin, Jennifer Lopez had one word: sunscreen. Who are we to argue? I use Missha For my face because its gentle and gives me a nice glow. For my body I like Pacifica but I recommend you find it at your local Target, Amazon doesn’t have the best prices for Pacifica in my experience.

Water as Your Primary Beverage

When it comes to flushing out toxins from the body, nothing tops good old H20. During hot summer weather, water is excellent at regulating the body’s core temperature. And you know what that means? Less redness in your face and more balanced oil production. Other clear-skin essentials? Green tea, coconut water and aloe juice. Your complexion will thank you!

Choose Light Makeup

On the topic of skincare, the hot summer weather doesn’t always play particularly nicely with heavy makeup. Switch up your regular makeup routine during the summer months in favor of lighter, dewier formulations. BB cream or tinted moisturizers are both excellent alternatives to full-face foundation. Another handbag must-have is thermal water face mist. It’s been a well-kept secret of French women for years and even celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Rita Ora are fans. Try a spritz of Avène Eau Thermale on a summer’s day for a blast of freshness and a translucent celeb-endorsed glow! Theres a lot of options here, from my favorite budget pick to more high-end
