Travel is one of my absolute favorite things in the world. However, because I’m #single and don’t have many friends who can or are willing to travel for long periods of time, I am forced to travel alone.
Well, forced isn’t the correct word, because I do love it. There is just something so fantastic about traveling on your own and being completely free to do whatever you want with your day.
The whole world is an adventure waiting to be explored, and although you may have your concerns about solo travel, there are a lot of countries that are very safe for a woman traveling alone.
You just have to be well-informed and safe when traveling. However, you should never limit yourself simply because you don’t have a friend or partner to join you on trips.

Australia
Australia is an excellent choice for many women traveling alone. The country is so diverse, it offers a wide array of adventures.
You can go snorkeling, layout at the beach or go on an outback adventure. On top of this, Australia has many big and exciting cities to explore.
The people from Australia are very relaxed and laid back. Australians also love to take a ‘gap year’ to travel after graduating from college, so it’s very likely you’ll run into other solo female travelers while on your trip.
Australia is considered one of the safest countries in the world so you can explore freely with little worries.
Thailand
Thailand is a common go-to spot for many solo travelers and backpackers. The country is very welcoming of tourists and it’s incredibly wallet-friendly. Since it’s such a hot spot for tourism, it’s very easy to make friends whilst visiting.
Whether you are getting lost in the craziness that is the nightlife of Bangkok or getting some sun in the South, this country has a little bit of everything for everyone. The country is filled with beautiful temples and amazing walking trails.
Tanzania
Perhaps you didn’t think Africa was a continent that was safe for solo-female travel, and (for the most part) you’d be right, but Tanzania is an exception.
There are a lot of rich experiences in this country. You absolutely must go on a safari! And if you’re fit and ready to conquer a big feat, maybe consider hiking Kilimanjaro – Africas highest mountain.
There are a lot of group tours for these activities so you won’t be trekking the wilderness on your own (don’t do that!).
On top of all this, the locals are very friendly and welcoming. This is the perfect destination for animal/adventure lovers of all ages.
Ireland
Ireland is a very fun and welcoming country. A lot of woman travel alone in Ireland so you won’t feel out of place or in danger whatsoever.
Another big bonus point is there is no language barrier when visiting making the trip a lot less stressful. Most of the Irish are very friendly and happy to help you out if you need directions or an idea of what to do next.
Spend some time exploring the beautiful scenery and be sure to visit a couple of pubs to get the full irish experience.
Japan
Perhaps you’re a little intimidated to visit Japan alone because of the language barrier, but Japanese people are one of the most respectful and humble human beings you could ever come across.
The country is very diverse and full of wonderful experiences. Tokyo is a wonderful city where everywhere you go is an adventure. Once you’re done with the noise and chaos of big city life, head on over to Kyoto.
Kyoto is a city known for its beauty, history, and culture. Explore the numerous shrines, museums, imperial palaces, and beautiful gardens.
Japan is an amazing stop if you want to spend some quality time by yourself and reflect. It should be high up on your list of countries to travel solo in.
Spain
Spain is another country where it’s common to find other solo travelers. This is a very lively country and it’s famously friendly and welcoming to tourists.
You’ll never really feel alone while in Spain. Locals love to strike up conversations, so it’s a great place to practice that Highschool Spanish you never thought you’d use!
The country offers a lot of opportunities to meet people as there are numerous bars, plazas, and streets that are always bubbling with locals and tourists (regardless of what city you go to!).
Spain is known to have a rich history and culture on top of beautiful scenery.
